Yonder Hill

Wines

Yonder Hill Wine Farm lies on the western slopes of the picturesque Helderberg Mountains range, about 15 km from Stellenbosch as you drive to Somerset West.

We are a proud, family-run wine estate with a rich history of wine farming coupled with an exceptional terroir to produce iconic wines that tell the story of enjoying life’s pleasures. We tied the branding of our wines to four family members to give each wine an actual character, sharing the best of our qualities with you.

We welcome you!

Winemaker

Janette van Lill

We have decomposed granite soils with a clay base. These soils are ideal for the production of iconic wines as the granite ensures good drainage and the clay keeps the vines moist during hot summer months. Along with the southern sea breeze, all these factors contribute to a quite exceptional terroir.

We have found that Bordeaux cultivars, especially Merlot, do very well here.

Our

Benjamin

The Benjamin Sauvignon Blanc is named after Daniel Naudé’s son Benjamin, the first grandchild of Frikkie Naudé.

Benjamin is a straightforward and balanced white cultivar wine. The wine was made in a reductive style to retain the fresh, fruity flavours of the grapes. It was kept on the vine for less than four months to create a more complex and balanced taste.

The Benjamin is ideal for the hot summer months. It is best enjoyed at a cold temperature, paired wonderfully with chicken, fish or salad dishes.

Our

Danilo

The Danilo Rosé is our most popular wine and a proud winner of a double gold award at Rosé Rocks. The name derives from Frikkie Naudé’s wife, Danila Naudé – a legend amongst the Naudé family.

This wine is a dry but fruity French-style Rosé, perfectly blended and balanced with Yonder Hill’s Merlot and Grenache Noir grapes. The Rosé colour was fine-tuned to the end to create an attractive but natural appearance.

The Merlot grapes are picked at a slightly riper stage, capitalising on the intensity of the fruit. At the same time, the Grenache is harvested at a lower sugar level to retain freshness.

Our

Ella

This full-bodied wine, with its garnet colour, has an abundance of juicy red fruit on the nose such as cherry and raspberry.

The purity of fruit creates a wine that is elegant and well structured. Drinks well now but it will only improve with time.

Will pair perfectly with rich tomato dishes or red meat

Our

Nicola

With the vineyards situated at the foothills of the majestic Helderberg, the cooling influence of False Bay is ever so felt, ensuring the retention of natural acidity that makes the backbone of this elegant wine.

The wine is showing aromas of juicy dark fruit with a subtle but pleasant floral note.

Complex and well-structured, this wine is drinking beautifully now but it will only improve over the next 5-10 years.”

Our

Ankole

The Ankole Pinnacle Reserve is our flagship wine. This iconic red blend combines our passion for Uganda’s majestic longhorn Ankole cattle and our wine-making history rooted in the soil of Yonder Hill.

As the southern sea breeze whistles through our vineyards, it mimics the rhythmic sound of the Ankole’s tusk-like horns tapping together, resonating with an ancient song of wine and nature. This pinnacle blend is truly a unique addition to our range of wines. Its smooth elegance can be enjoyed straight away, but, much like the long growing horns of our Ankole, it becomes even more impressive over time.

The Ankole is our limited edition reserve, exclusively available on the estate.
